Tips and Ideas for a Great Birthday

A first birthday is a joyous time. It’s the first measured stepping stone in a child’s life. The anticipation of a first birthday and the celebration is exhilarating. It can also be stressful and, for some, an overwhelming experience. There is a lot of pressure to make the event unique and grand. We want to offer you some tips as you gear up for your child’s first birthday. These same tips and creative ideas can be applied to any child’s birthday celebration.

Know your style. Do you like big productions or quaint get-togethers? Do what is comfortable. The celebration is not supposed to be stressful. (Save the stress for your child’s wedding)!

Decide on a budget and stick to it. It is amazing how quickly costs can get out of control. The truth is you aren’t going to remember how many balloons you blew up but you will remember the picture of your child’s cake-smeared face. Priceless!

Decide on a theme. We are lucky moms to be surrounded by so many great party resources. Choosing a theme can be tricky. Here are some creative ideas to get you started:

  1. Magical Moves: If you like the look of surprise on a child’s face then breaks out your wand and top hat. A magic show is always a thrill for little ones.
  2. Go Interactive: This does not mean sit the kids in front of the television with a joystick. Have the adults and kids get in on the action. They can make ice cream, decorate cupcakes, make party hats, and participate in the games. Kids love to watch mom and dad, and other adults race in a potato sack or carry an egg on a spoon to the finish line.
  3. Dance the Day Away: A themed dance party can shake things up. Music and costumes from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s is fun and easy. Who knows? Grandpa may twist and shout the night away!
  4. Guess Who? It’s a mystery. Have your grown up guests bring pictures of their first birthday. Have the other guests guess who it is in the picture. Kids also love to see adults when they were babies.
  5. Take it on the road. Go to the beach, go to the park, be sure to bring your sunscreen, blankets, food, and (speaking from experience) cupcakes are easiest!
Whatever party idea you decide to go with if you choose to hire someone to entertain at your child’s party be sure to check references. Be clear on what services will be provided and the time they are to set up for the party, be present at the party, and what time they will leave.

The most important point to keep in mind is that a birthday is a celebration of life. It’s a reason to get friends and family together to honor your child. Have fun, be relaxed, take pictures, and enjoy the moment.

P.S. Happy Birthday AmeriKidz!
