How Grandma Did It: Old Fashioned Remedies That Are Still Kicking Today!
Remember
those days when you were young and not feeling well and grandma seemed
to have all the right answers? You may not see grandma as much as you
like, but her old fashioned remedies are still proving strong for
children, and families too! Here is a list of some common ailments and
great products that uses all of grandma’s best remedies to alleviate
symptoms. They taste great and are safe for you and your loved ones! •
Coughs: Honey, while a great sweetener, is also a time-tested remedy
for coughs and loaded with antioxidants. Studies have shown that
buckwheat honey may provide better relief of nighttime coughs than
over-the-counter (OTC) cough syrups. Maty’s All Natural Cough Syrup
with Buckwheat Honey is a great product to alleviate your cold
symptoms.
• Upset stomachs: Ginger has a
long history as a digestive remedy and studies have suggested it may
help fight inflammation and is useful against nausea and vomiting. Try
boiling ginger in hot water with a little bit of sugar or just drink
flat ginger ale. GuS Extra Dry ginger ale, made with natural ginger
root extracts, is great to calm your stomach.
•
Sore Throats: It may be deceptively simple but gargling with warm salt
water can help ease symptoms and keep you healthier during flu season.
Salt actually draws out the fluid from your inflamed throat tissues,
which helps kill the bacteria. Add half a teaspoon of salt to a glass
of warm water and gargle away.
•
Nasal congestion: Eucalyptus oil has been shown to be effective for
treating a number of respiratory problems including coughs, running
noses, sore throats, asthma and nasal congestion. Combine a few drops
of eucalyptus oil with peppermint oil and rub on the chest, back or
neck for soothing comfort. Maty’s All Natural Vapor Rub will soothe,
comfort and provide relief while boosting one’s immune system.
•
Colds & flu: This is an unique treatment but giving yourself an
artificial fever can help shorten the duration of the cold or flu by
killing off the infection. Draw a hot bath and make a cup of hot
tea. Sit in the bath for at least 20 minutes and drink your
tea. Then you get up very carefully (you may feel a bit
lightheaded) and wrap a sheet around your body. Don't even dry
yourself off. Get under some heavy covers and relax there
for at least 20 minutes and let your body sweat it out. A
fever is your body’s natural response to an infection; your body will
increase its temperature to fight the infection. The artificial
fever just helps it along quicker. Of course if your fever is
already very high, above 102 degrees, then you do not need to do
this. You can also put a cool compress on your forehead to keep
your head cooler during the process.
