OKLAHOMA MUSEUM NETWORK 405.602.3685 www.oklahomamuseumnetwork.org A State Network of Museums is Raising the Bar for Fun. It
is rare for a museum to get a new traveling exhibit, if lucky, you can
see one a year. But thanks to a partnership supported by the Donald W.
Reynolds Foundation, Oklahoma museums will see not one, but FOUR new
exhibits that will travel around the state providing exciting hands-on
experiences for children and families! The Oklahoma Museum Network, a
partnership of five museums dedicated to increasing discovery learning
opportunities, launched four new traveling exhibits simultaneously. Sherry Marshall, Director of
the Oklahoma Museum Network explains, “Our partner museums are excited
to host these interactive groups that always provide a new adventure.
These exhibitions rotate TWICE a year, something very unusual to see in
the museum community. We wanted to make sure that Oklahoma children
always have access to new and exciting hands-on play experiences.” The
exhibitions listed here will be on display through September then
rotate to the next partner until each one has been featured at every
museum. • Tinkering, an interactive play exploration of
how things work, is currently on display at the Jasmine Moran
Children’s Museum in Seminole. • Memory explores the way our brain perceives the world around us, featured at the Tulsa Air and Space Museum. •
AirPlay is open at Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse in Enid. Here you
can experience the power of air and how it moves and affects objects. •
SPEED is the science of quick, letting guests experience different
activities focusing on what makes things push, zoom, drag, go, and
stop! It is on display at the Museum of the Great Plains in Lawton. The
network hub museum, Science Museum Oklahoma, will be launching yet
another OMN traveling exhibit in the Fall of 2011 designed specifically
for young children. “Thanks to the generous support of the Reynolds
Foundation, we are able to bring world class experiences to all areas
of our state. It is something we are extremely proud of for Oklahoma.”
says Marshall. Exhibits are open and included with general
admission at each museum. An OMN affiliate upgrade membership is
available for purchase with museum memberships that allows one year of
free admission for five people to OMN partner museums.
